“Give” and “Pig Heil” by Tomi Ungerer

Political posters of protests are just some of what author and artist Tomi Ungerer is world renowned for. During his early thirties at the height of the Vietnam War in the 1960’s, Ungerer self-published numerous iconic political posters advocating for antiwar. His posters spoke volumes against the racial injustice of the 1960’s, and they provided invaluable commentary on the stark social and political changes that were occurring during that unstable time. Both “Give” and “Pig Heil” as seen above illustrate the brutal force used by the American people towards the Vietnamese. Given his tremendous political influence and efforts, in 2014 Ungerer was awarded one of the most distinguished honors in France. This award was to recognize Ungerer for his eternal artistic battle against political prejudice. Now, Ungerer continues to be acknowledged for his works by being the first living artist to have a museum in France dedicated to their life and work.
